Standard Basis: The IP Code is a coding system used to indicate the degrees of protection provided by an enclosure against access to hazardous parts, ingress of solid foreign objects, and ingress of water. This equipment tests the protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against harmful effects due to the ingress of water.

Detailed Specifications for IPX2 Test (Dripping, 15° Tilted)
The IPX2 rating is designed to test protection against vertically falling water drops when the enclosure is tilted up to 15°.

Protection Requirement: Vertically falling drops shall have no harmful effects when the enclosure is tilted at any angle up to 15° on either side of the vertical.

Test Apparatus: The same Dripping device (Drip Box) is used, adjusted for a different flow rate.

Setup: The table on which the enclosure is placed does not turn. The enclosure is tested in four fixed positions of tilt. These positions are 15° on either side of the vertical in two mutually perpendicular planes.

Test Conditions:
◦ Water Flow Rate: 3,0 mm/min (+0,5 mm/min; -0 mm/min) (precipitation height).
◦ Duration per position: 2,5 min for each position of tilt.
◦ Total Test Duration: 10 minutes
Acceptance Conditions (Verification)
Upon completion of the tests, the enclosure shall be inspected for ingress of water. If any water has entered, it must not:

Be sufficient to interfere with the correct operation of the equipment or impair safety.

Deposit on insulation parts where it could lead to tracking along the creepage distances.

Reach live parts or windings not designed to operate when wet.

Accumulate near the cable end or enter the cable if any.
If the enclosure is provided with drain-holes, inspection must verify that any water which enters drains away without causing harm to the equipment.
